Somerset House has hosted London Fashion Week since 2009, we are also home to fashion designer Corrie Nielsen, who has a studio in our building. We have programmed several fashion exhibitions in recent years including SHOWstudio: Fashion Revolution, which was a collaboration with renowned fashion photographer Nick Knight, Dior Illustrated: René Gruau and the Line of Beauty, a fashion illustration exhibition, a display highlighting Matthew Williamson’s work in our Courtyard Rooms and 20 Years of Dazed & Confused Magazine in the Terrace Rooms.

Now approaching its 150th anniversary, little is widely known about the early days of winter tourism in Switzerland. Although the first of the winter visitors to the Alps were convalescents, they were also joined by healthy friends and relatives who, for amusement and exercise, devised new activities sliding about on the snow and ice. Talking to Fashioning Winter: Moving Mountains curator Tory Turk, Susan Barton will reveal the quirky origins of winter tourism.
