Travel on the night:
The Mayor of London has commissioned a New Year’s Eve fireworks display to take place around the London Eye, this will follow a similar format to previous years but the key change to this year’s event is that ticketing has been introduced, to maintain the safety of the event and manage the large crowds that come into central London on New Year’s Eve.
Please plan your journeys accordingly, allowing plenty of time to reach Somerset House. There will be several measures in place to ensure the safety of all visitors to London and these will affect all types of transport in the city.
The Strand entrance to Somerset House will be fully accessible throughout the evening. All ticket holders (skaters and spectators) are advised to arrive by 19.45 and to check their journey with Transport for London before travelling.
Transport for London will be providing free travel all night on all its public transport services, from 23.45 on New Year’s Eve until 04.30 on New Year’s Day.
Due to large crowds and public safety concerns, vehicles will not be able to access Whitehall, York Road, Belvedere Road, Victoria Embankment, Whitehall Place and any roads leading south of the Strand or Fleet Street.
