Fernandez & Wells
Bringing a taste of Soho cool to the Strand, Fernandez & Wells is open for breakfast, lunch and tapas in the newly refurbished East Wing. Renowned for their light-filled, uncluttered interiors and simple use of quality, well-sourced produce, Jorge Fernandez and Rick Wells have garnered a devout following since opening their first café in Soho five years ago. This new venture, their fourth and largest yet with capacity for up to 100, has a prime location with views overlooking The Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court. Inspired by the growth of farmers’ markets and interest in the provenance of produce, visitors can expect attentive, knowledgeable staff and simple but delicious food and drinks.
The breakfast menu includes single estate coffee, pastries and fried eggs. The lunch menu includes chunky sandwiches such as bocadillos with ‘Jamón Ibérico de Bellota’ - named as one of the best in London by the Evening Standard, plus soups and stews. Open late into the evening until 23.00, they also serve raclette, tapas and wine by the glass. Using materials such as York stone and sycamore to create a contemporary and airy interior, Fernandez & Wells complements the 18th century Georgian splendor of Somerset House. In a bold departure from the look of their previous sites, they have commissioned a trio of wall-drawings from British artist David Tremlett, who has recently completed a major site-work at Tate Britain.
