Hairywood

© David GrandorgeClimb Hairywood Tower in
Covent Garden

20 June-20 July 2008
Once you've seen the miniature model of the Hairywood tower in the Skin+Bones exhibition, why not climb the 25ft tower in Covent Garden piazza.

To celebrate Skin+Bones, we've rebuilt Hairywood. Designed by 6a Architects and fashion designers Eley Kishimoto in 2005 and originally curated by the Architecture Foundation, Hairywood is a six metre tower you can climb and explore.

Hairywood takes the form of a periscope, a tower embellished with a carved pattern inspired by Rapunzel's hair, leading to a small elevated cabin overlooking the surrounding area.  Inspiration came from Jacques Tati's Monsieur Hulot's Holiday (1958), where the intimacy of Hulot's hotel exterior is juxtaposed with the chaos of the public beach.

Explore the installation for free at Covent Garden piazza.
