Iconic photographs of Joy Division by Kevin Cummins, early photographer to the band, were displayed in the Great Arch. This selection of images from the 1970s showed the band in their rehearsal rooms, performing at The Factory and on the streets of Manchester.

Ian and co. were learning how to pose as a band as I was learning how to shoot bands. It wouldn't have been politic to release shots of Ian smiling. On the rare occasion that I captured a hint of a smile I cursed my bad luck at wasting a valuable frame of film.
