Columbia Records Managing Director Mike Smith’s career in the music industry has led him to work with a range of artists from Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Kings of Leon, Kasabian and Mark Ronson to his own discoveries as a talent scout; Blur, The White Stripes, The Libertines, The Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire and more recently The Vaccines. Throughout this time, Mike has been sketching the artists he has worked with, observing them in performance or relaxing on tour. This display documents his work from the last thirty years.
Some of the drawings remain sketches while others have been turned into more detailed coloured works, a number in oil on canvas, others on computer screens to be displayed on light boxes.
The display coincides with the Summer Series at Somerset House, where some of Mike’s artists have performed.
