The Courtauld Gallery
The Courtauld Gallery has one of the most important collections in Britain, including world-famous Old Master and Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings, together with sculpture and applied arts, and a world-class prints and drawings collection which includes works by Michelangelo, Rembrandt, Cézanne and Turner.
The Courtauld's extraordinarily rich assembly of works of art was largely formed through a series of major gifts and bequests from some of the leading collectors of the 19th and 20th centuries. To reflect the importance of these individual collections, the Gallery has reorganised its displays with the works now arranged by collector.
The new installation offers insights into the history of the individual collections themselves, the history of the Gallery collection as a whole, and the history of collecting in Great Britain in the late 19th and 20th centuries.
