Future Jobs Fund
The Future Jobs Fund/Culture Quarter Programme is a pilot project offering young people aged 18 to 24, who were previously unemployed, the chance to gain six months paid work at a number of high profile arts and cultural organisations in Central London.
Aiming to kick start the careers of young people struggling to get a job in the arts, the programme provides valuable work experience, the development of highly transferable skills and support from a range of industry professionals. Participants can then act as Arts Ambassadors – sharing their work experience with peers and local communities.
At Somerset House 5 individuals have now successfully progressed through the programme over the last 12 months, another 2 have just started.
My role as Assistant Duty Manager with the Visitor Services team at Somerset House is an incredibly varied job that encompasses Front of House gallery duties, briefing exhibition staff and volunteers, site checks, liaising with cleaning and maintenance staff, administrative duties and reception duties. Essentially I help to ensure that Somerset House is a place where people can enjoy the visual arts in a secure, well-kept and informative environment. To work in this area, you need to have great interpersonal and communication skills, a willingness to work as part of team and a passion for the arts’
