Spirit of 2012 work in partnership with other organisations to develop and fund projects that take the London Olympics 2012 spirit forward in the UK. Their goal is to enable people to take an active part in their communities through sport, art and cultural activity, education and volunteering; and by doing so to improve their own lives and those of others. They also encourage all their partners to collaborate and to share their own networks, tools and experiences as a way of helping the resource they have to go further and to make a difference to more people’s lives.

The community spirit, cohesion and participation the nation experienced during the London Olympics and Paralympics was the inspiration behind the Big Lottery Fund's creation of Spirit of 2012. Spirit's work will build on the positive changes in people's attitudes and behaviours to ensure they continue making a real difference in communities across the UK.
