Studio Spaces

Somerset House Studios is housed in the New Wing at Somerset House, a Grade 1 listed building which remodelled the old Admiralty residencies to create new offices for the Inland Revenue in the mid-nineteenth century. The Studios uphold this heritage in their refurbishment, offering affordable workspace for artists across a range of studio and desk spaces. Most studios are shared, with a small number available for solo occupation. Access is 24 hour but subject to a security notification process for late working.

All residents also have access to a number of shared social spaces for meetings, eating and socialising. This includes access to the Snooker Rooms, a unique space refurbished from the old Inland Revenues recreation spaces housing a kitchen, pool table, darts boards, screening and DJ facilities and a full sized snooker table.

The spaces currently available can be broken down into 5 categories. As a heritage building, the spaces vary and the images below are representational of the type of space available. Please note the price relates to the size of the space, with the largest being the most expensive.

Desk space in a shared studio

£100 + VAT per month

There are 5 desk spaces available in this newly renovated studio on the mid-basement of the New Wing. This is a carpeted space with two large original Victorian windows providing lots of natural light. The desk space positions are set in the room with a desk space and a chair provided for all residents along with an allocation of shared shelving. It is possible to request a maximum of 2 desk spaces in a shared studio.
