Film4 Summer Screen DJs

Each evening as the sun sets, visitors can settle in and enjoy the sounds of a curated selection of live DJs, performing specially created sets inspired by the upcoming film. Presenting an eclectic mix of musical genres, this year’s line-up features the likes of renowned backing singer Denise Johnson (20 Feet of Stardom), Mercury nominated musician and composer Barry Adamson (Blue Velvet), Worldwide FM’s Tina Edwards (The Wife), NTS’ Paul Camo (Selma) and Soho Radio’s Iraina Mancini (Labyrinth & The Wizard of Oz).

TINA EDWARDS (WORLDWIDE FM) | THE WIFE | THU 09 AUG 2018

Tina is a DJ, presenter and journalist, development producer and writer. She is at the forefront of breaking the UK’s young, genre-breaking and dance-inducing Jazz scene. Tina has an incredible ear for new music, pushing new artists who go on to receive high critical acclaim including Poppy Ajudha and Ezra Collective. She hosts Worldwide FM’s Daily Show, the station’s first anchor programme, and regularly covers slots for the station’s founder—none other than Gilles Peterson. With EZH Mag which she founded and ran for four years with a team of 20+ contributors from around the world—she has helped UK Jazz to be seen in a completely fresh light to young audiences with editorial, radio and festival showcasing.

JULIE BLAKE (ERASED TAPES) | INCEPTION | FRI 10 AUG 2018

Since 2005 Julie Blake has devoted her life to soundtracks, leading Ninja Tune’s North American sync operations for seven years before coming to London to be General Manager of Erased Tapes Music where she represents some of the most exciting film composers in the world. Marrying her love of ambient and electronic music, her Inception-inspired set will be co-curated by Ben Lukas Boysen, whose most recent work was the soundtrack for Everything, released on Erased Tapes and the first video game to be nominated for an Oscar in the short film category. The two-hour set will be a delicious blend of contemporary classical sounds, reverb drenched synths, and industrial beats.

IRAINA MANCINI (SOHO RADIO) | LABYRINTH + THE WIZARD OF OZ | SAT 11 AUG 2018

Iraina Mancini is one of the most exciting DJs and Radio Hosts on the current scene. Iraina regularly exports her love of Northern Soul, Funk, Rhythm & Blues, Ska and Disco to audiences all over London and internationally. Performing at high-class clubs such as Groucho Club, Soho House, 5 Hertford St and Scotch of St James as well as top music festivals (Glastonbury, The Secret Garden Party, Red Rooster and Wilderness) and film, fashion and corporate business events (Pretty Green, Swarovski, Samsung, GQ and The Toronto Film Festival). She also hosts a cult radio show fortnightly on Soho Radio where she plays a palate of her DJ sets and interviews her favourite bands. Previous guests comprise legendary producer Mike Chapman (Blondie, The Knack) Babyshambles, Algiers, Ida Mae and Garret Shider (Parliament, Funkadelic).

Stav Bee is a female, genderqueer visual artist, creative, pop up bar owner, entrepreneur, DJ and broadcaster. She has been the queer/ dyke scene, part of the scene and contributor to the scene for a long while now, adding to its essence with her events, club nights, DJ sets, art happenings and panels. Direct and uncompromising, she actively campaigns for the survival, expansion and evolution of female focused spaces and places, which are fundamental and essential in the whole LGBTQIA umbrella and culture. Her vinyl only sets, reflect the love and beauty of the medium, the undying concept of the avant garde, solidarity towards women and the passion for the music. It is all about the creative process and fun.

SAM DONNISON | BEING JOHN MALKOVICH | MON 13 AUG 2018

Sam Donnison is a worldwide in-demand music consultant and DJ that has made his home in London. Hosting the Free Association show on the Mixcloud award winning Netil Radio he runs a venue-hopping party of the same name, which showcases his love of the diverse while championing local producers and selectors. Sam is in his element whether closing the night at Corsica Studios or playing a sunset session with Es Vedrà as the backdrop. His passion is sharing music with people from around the world and recent trips, including a long dreamed of musical pilgrimage to Chicago and Detroit, a stay in Seoul working on the music programming at the Ryse Hotel and gigs in Paris and Barcelona have led to more musical connections furthering these horizons.

Anyone who has seen Denise Johnson sing will remember it, because there's an honesty about her stage presence that compels your attention. BBC4 compilations & documentaries of the mid 90's will see her alongside Bobby Gillespie at the forefront with Primal Scream in a position, in many people's eyes (and ears) would argue played a big part of their shows and on their albums ''Screamadelica'' and ''Give Out But Don't Give Up'' Inclusion in The Guardian's list of all time top 10 vocalists whose backing vocals have been instrumental to the songs performed on (compiled to coincide with the Oscar winning documentary ''20 Feet From Stardom'') she has a reputation as someone who works with the people and the music that feels right, rather than projects she doesn't feel any empathy with or passion for.

Rhythm Sister is a platform, collective & community. The collective have a monthly show on Balamii and have run parties in London, Bristol & Brighton with the likes of Or:la, Mike Servito, Debonair & Donna Leake. As a DJs they've played at various clubs across the UK including Motion, Corsica Studios Dalston Superstore and Patterns. Festival wise at Love International, Peckham Rye Music Festival, Secret Garden, this year at Farr Festival, Love Saves The Day, Kala Albania & more. Alongside this the community project host panels, DJ workshops for women and non-binary, and have teamed up with Secretsundaze studios & CDR for to teach production. The Floor is Yours has just launched which is a party showcasing new DJs and giving them a chance to play on a club system for the first time.

BARRY ADAMSON | BLUE VELVET | THU 16 AUG 2018

Barry Adamson has been creating all of his life. Perhaps his greatest creation is himself as a multi-disciplined artist. The self-taught musician rose to prominence as the bass player in post punk legends, Magazine. His establishment as a solo artist came after a three-year stint with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and heralded the release of his seminal first solo album, ‘Moss Side Story’. Having released nine studio albums, including the 1992 Mercury Music Prize nominated ‘Soul Murder’, Adamson has continued to tour globally and recently announced a brand new anthology release scheduled for October 2018.

Pye Corner Audio’s Martin Jenkins is a seasoned live performer and regular guest at Ghost Box's Belbury Youth Club events. Much in demand over the last two years including shows at Enter Ibiza, Barcelona's Lapsus Festival and Mogwai's 20th anniversary show at Barrowlands in Glasgow.

Raw Silk are Grace and Steph, two South London DJs who celebrate the fabulousness, the freeness and the naughtiness of disco past and present. What began as a spicy monthly party in Peckham has now taken the duo all over London, supporting the likes of Horse Meat Disco, Dan Shake, Greg Wilson and the Percolate parties as well as hosting shows on Netil Radio.

Nathan is Marketing and Label Development Manager for nonclassical. He’s also one of nonclassical’s resident DJs, playing liminal weirdness, ambient music, lazy beats, new and old outsiders, and sleepy (but not soporific) sounds.

Firmly establishing himself over the last 15 years, Jonjo Jury has become a central figure on London’s underground dance scene as well as a key figure in London’s fashion and LGBT communities. His cross-genre sets are known for getting the party started and not playing by the rules. Jonjo cut his teeth as a resident at iconic nights Trash and Durrr, before starting his own legendary LGBT night, Hot Boy Dancing. Currently Jonjo is DJ in residence at Savage, the hottest ticket on a Saturday night, alongside guest acts such as Hercules & Love Affair, Heidi and Horse Meat Disco Spot. Jonjo is also the Musical Director at The Ace Hotel London’s outpost, Hoi Polloi and works regularly for the likes of Acne, Dazed & Confused, Tate Modern, Topshop, Netflix and Absolut.

Creative Director by day and full time music lover, Paul Camo’s illustrious music career spans throughout the city of London, the wider UK and beyond. His selection skills are second to none, bridging the gap between genres. Paul has hosted his own WE ARE show on NTS Radio since 2012 which has allowed him to share his music discoveries and personal favourites from his impressive catalogue of vinyl.

Euphonica is the event music agency who curate the DJ programme at Film4 Summer Screen. Dan heads up the team, and has DJed worldwide for two decades, playing headline sets at Pacha Ibiza and Ministry of Sound. He brings the carnival to every event with an imaginative mix of party music, whether he’s on the main stage at Bestival or sharing the stage with Stevie Wonder. For the closing night premiere, he'll bring a cross-platform mix of party songs and summertime favourites.
