Superflux - Cream Project

Hope in the Heat

Somerset House’s Future Producers present Hope in the Heat, a new series of projects exploring and imagining hopeful visions of a climate altered future, in collaboration with futures design studio and Somerset House Studios resident Superflux.

Superflux have been working with the Future Producers to develop and give form to their own visions of hopeful futures in a climate-altered world. This work will foreground the power that imagination brings: showing that the way things are currently, is not permanent, not universal, not necessary. It will be driven by the lived experiences of the group, their creative interests, research findings and conversations with climate scientists.

Through their work, Superflux imagine and build future worlds you can experience in the present, prompting diverse groups of people to critically examine their choices and decisions today. We believe they are the perfect partners to mentor the Future Producers and to support the creation of something truly impactful.

Future Producers will present Hope in the Heat on Tue 25 May 2021. The project will see the Future Producers create and share their own artistic interpretations of future worlds and ideas by examining and reflecting upon the environmental choices and decisions which impact society today.

The series of interactive works, visual displays and films will bring together the Future Producers’ creative responses exploring themes of animism, colonial herbology, food crop production, as well as speculative visions of our relationship with future life forms and the shape of our cities. These responses will be available to access via a dedicated online site, designed by Studio Koseda, which will also feature essays and interviews from the Future Producers.

We will celebrate the launch of this project with an online event on Wed 02 Jun, 18.30. This will see three of our Future Producers in conversation with Anab Jain and Jon Ardern of Superflux.
