Somerset House Studios | Apply

We have now reached a point where all studio spaces have been refurbished at Somerset House Studios and are currently at full capacity. Studio space will become available on a more ad hoc basis with residencies ending at different stages. Applications are not open at present but please complete our brief expression of interest application if you are interested in joining the Somerset House Studios community and would like to be contacted when applications go live.

We will keep your data on file for 18 months. Thereafter we will contact you to see if you wish to keep your expression of interest active.

As a heritage building, the spaces vary, and the images below are representational of the type of space available. Please note the price relates to the size of the space, with the largest being the most expensive.

Details on the spaces are available here.

Somerset House Studios is devised for artists who are pushing bold ideas, engaging with urgent issues, pioneering new technologies, and are fully committed to exploring the potential afforded by making work within a highly selective multi-disciplinary community that feeds a public programme. Applications are welcome across all disciplines including but not limited to visual art, music and composition, performance, dance and live art, fiction and non-fiction writers, fashion, film and those working at the intersection of art and technology.  The overall balance of artists is an important factor in selecting new residents.

Applications are welcome from artists who meet the above criteria and in addition:

  • Make their primary living from their practice
  • Are willing to share their practice with a community of peers
  • Can demonstrate that their practice will benefit from being part of a cross disciplinary creative community
  • Are over 18 years of age (there is no age maximum)
  • Applications are welcome from overseas artists but Somerset House Studios must be their primary place of work

Have carefully read the Application Guidelines and the specification for the specific studio they are applying for, and understand that their practice can be accommodated by Somerset House Studios
