Online

Join repair expert Shelley Zetuni from Sewing Smith as she demonstrates how to create a patterned darn on a knitwear garment.

During this workshop, Shelley will show you how to create vibrant and eye-catching patterned darns which can be used on knitted items. Following this, you will have the opportunity to ask Shelley questions. This workshop is suitable for beginners and is free to attend.

Materials Required:

  • A knitwear piece with a hole – beginners are advised to work on a chunky knit
  • Threads or yarns; a minimum of two colours of a similar weight, or a little lighter to the yarn used in the piece you are mending
  • A darning needle – a selection may be best if you're unsure. It's best to use a needle with an eye that matches the thickness of your yarn. Also choose a thicker needle for chunky knits, and a thinner one for finer knits.
  • A darning disc, darning mushroom or small embroidery hoop (or something to tension the work on)
  • A pair of scissors
