When booking your tickets online

Online queue

  • We operate an online queueing system to ensure that traffic to our website is managed safely and does not overwhelm the site. Anyone visiting our site during busy periods will be placed in this queue. We anticipate a queueing time of minimum 15 minutes to get onto the site during the busiest periods of the on-sale for Somerset House Summer Series.

New customers and returning customers

  • New customers, who haven’t booked for an event at Somerset House before, will need to set up a new account when booking.
  • Returning customers, who have booked for an event at Somerset House before, will need to log in using the email address they have booked with in the past. If you are a returning customer, you will need to activate your account by entering your email address in the ‘Forgot login’ box. We will then send you an email instructing you to update your password, thereby activating your login. We suggest you do that in advance of priority booking, to make it quick and easy to get the tickets you want when priority booking begins.


About your tickets

  • Please check your booking confirmation which you will receive shortly after making your booking. Please note this is not your ticket Your e-ticket will arrive 24 hours prior to your event to reduce the risk of re-sales. We do not print or post physical tickets.
  • Somerset House operates a no refund or exchange policy. 
  • If an event is cancelled, rescheduled or postponed you will be contacted directly by the point of purchase to make necessary arrangements.
  • Maximum 10 tickets per household per event. Orders exceeding the ticket limit may be cancelled without notice at our discretion. This includes duplicate orders having the same name, email address, billing address or credit card.
  • Ticket touting is strictly prohibited. Tickets may not be resold, advertised for re-sale or transferred and may be used only by the purchaser.
  • Somerset House will not be responsible for any Ticket that is lost, stolen or destroyed.

  • Somerset House will have an onsite Box Office open from 18.00-21.00 (from 09-22 August 2018) for Film4 Summer Screen located in the New Wing off of Lancaster Place. Please visit for any ticket enquires.

Times / What time should I arrive?

Doors open 18.30
DJs from 18.45, programmed with Euphonica
Film starts approximately 21.00

Relax and soak up the atmosphere from 18.30, when doors open. A DJ will play from 18.45 and the film begins at approx. 21.00 as the sun goes down.

What should I bring?

Audiences are welcome to bring their own blankets, small cushions and backrests to sit on.

You can also pre order a blanket and backrest package at the same time as purchasing tickets, to collect at the venue on the night. These are yours to keep after the event.

Alternatively, blankets, backrests and cushions can be purchased on-site for £5.00–£15.00. 

For this year there will be a very limited number of seats available for audience members who would prefer a seat. Seats are unallocated and situated at the rear of the courtyard. Audiences should be aware that unless they purchase the seated option for an extra £5 when buying their ticket for the screening, there are no other seats available in the courtyard; chairs, large items or portable furniture, inflatable or otherwise are not allowed. There is no cloakroom onsite.


The screenings are open air. The audience area is not covered. The screenings will go ahead whatever the weather – come rain or come shine. Please come prepared as no wet weather provisions will be provided.

Entry Information
No cameras, video cameras or audio recording devices. No re-admission. Pets are not permitted in the courtyard during Film4 Summer Screen.

When leaving
Please consider our neighbours and leave Somerset House quietly.

Wheelchair users and registered disabled patrons are entitled to one free PA/Carer ticket, to be booked through the Accessibility team – number above (subject to documentation).

Wheelchair users should request a “Platform Access ticket” when booking their chosen screening. This ticket guarantees the disabled patron and their PA a place on the viewing platform for the duration of the screening. The platform is situated at the rear of the courtyard. Spaces are limited.

Only registered assistance dogs are permitted on-site during the films.


Please check the age certificate of the film you are booking. Entrance to double bill programmes is restricted to the film of highest certification, even if you are only planning to stay for one film.

The certification of premieres is to be confirmed at time of going on sale. Should certification change, Somerset House will advise all customers in advance and refund any ticket sold to anyone below the age of certification.

Due to the nature of the event children under the age of 4 including babies are not permitted to attend. 


Behind the Screen

Behind the Screen goes on sale in June 2018.  Mailing list subscribers receive advanced information.

Film fans are invited inside Somerset House for Behind the Screen – a diverse and entertaining programme of talks, workshops and family activities.

Behind the Screen brings the world of cinema into sharper focus with special events and guests providing unique insights into the Summer Screen film programme.


Food & Drink

A range of food  is available to buy on site, and there is a fully-licensed bar and coffee point.  We will be serving pizzas and nachos made to order from a pop-up food stall in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court.

You are welcome to bring your own food and drink, but we regret that no glass, crockery or sharp knives are allowed into the courtyard. Bag searches may be made at entrance and unsuitable items confiscated. Customers are welcome to bring alcohol into the site, we reserve the right to use our discretion and may confiscate anything deemed excessive. Confiscations will be available to collect at the end of the evening.

Bryn Williams' are offering a selection of picnic hampers designed with two in mind which can be bought at the same time as purchasing tickets, to collect at the venue on the night.  These will be available to purchase up until 3 working days before the event.  If you have any special dietary requirements please contact Bryn Williams Events direct to arrange alternatives, Gluten and vegan option on request. Fernandez & Wells café and bar, located in the East Wing alongside the courtyard, will offer organic and natural wines and craft beer to accompany their savoury and sweet treats, including grilled chorizo buns, sourdough toasted cheese, vegan pistachio brownies and Portuguese custard tarts.
