The animation of Studio Ghibli delivers magic and adventure as two young sisters find themselves taken under the wing of a friendly forest furball.

The magical animation of legendary Studio Ghibli fills the Somerset House courtyard with colour, charm and adventure once more, following memorable screenings of Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle and Spirited Away in previous years. This summer, one of the world’s most beloved characters flies in for a special visit. Two young sisters move to the countryside with their father and find themselves ushered into a world beyond their wildest dreams, where the spirit of nature – embodied by a friendly forest furball – provides unexpected comfort while their mother is in hospital.

With elegant and evocative hand-drawn animation bringing this fantastical story to life, Oscar-winning director Hayao Miyazaki’s 1988 feature promises all-ages enchantment and will send you out hoping to catch the first ‘cat-bus’ home. Totoro is the character that Studio Ghibli uses as its official logo and is a familiar figure throughout Japan – once you meet the fuzzy favourite you’ll understand why!
