Formed by multi-instrumentalist singer/songwriter Mark Foster in 2009, the band picked up a considerable buzz online with performances at the Texas musical festival SXSW attracting the attention of major labels. A self-titled EP included Pumped Up Kicks, which quickly became a massive worldwide hit and platinum selling debut album Torches scooped the Billboard Music Awards' Top Rock Song and picked up three Grammy nominations, transforming Foster from a radio jingle writer into a household name.
