WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A CREATIVE INDUSTRY PLACEMENT PARTICIPANT?

Being a Creative Industry Placement Participant means working for two different organisations, six months in each, over the course of one year. It means having the opportunity to be part of a team as well as to learn and develop skills from your colleagues, guest speakers and other participants. As a participant, we also want you to contribute ideas and suggestions to the organisations you’re working with to keep them relevant and fresh – everyone can learn from one another.

HOW DOES BEING A PARTICIPANT BENEFIT YOU?

The benefits of being a participant include pastoral and professional support from Somerset House, mentoring, wrap round training, career development and HR administration. You also get invites to private Somerset House events and networking opportunities, a one-year membership to The Exchange co-working space as well as discounts to the cafés and restaurants based at Somerset House.  

WHO ARE THE CREATIVE INDUSTRY PLACEMENTS OPPORTUNITY FOR?

The opportunity of being a Creative Industry Placement Participant is for people aged between 18-24 who identify as belonging to a community that is currently underrepresented within the cultural sector* and who are looking to obtain an entry level role in the Arts.

*Underrepresented in this context includes but is not limited to those who identify as:
From the African diaspora
From the South, East and South East Asian diaspora
From an ethnically diverse background
Having a migrant or refugee experience
Affected by a health condition or impairment
Neurodivergent
Affected by homelessness
Unemployed and/or having received welfare benefits
Carer
Care-leaver
Working class and/or first in their immediate family to go to university

HOW MUCH DO CREATIVE INDUSTRY PLACEMENT PARTICIPANTS GET PAID?

Somerset House pay all of the participants the London Living Wage (£11.05 per hour until April 2023 and then £11.95 per hour from April 2023 - January 2024). Participants are paid monthly.

HOW LONG CAN I BE A PARTICIPANT FOR?

Participants are on the programme for one year.

HOW MANY DAYS PER WEEK DO PLACEMENTS WORK?

The Creative Industry Placements Programme offers full-time positions (37.5 hours) to all participants – this is broken down into five full working days a week (usually between Monday-Friday). This time should be split between working in the offices at Somerset House and working from home.  

WHAT JOBS CAN I APPLY FOR?

All of the opportunities available are with organisations that are based at Somerset House. Please make sure that you apply to at least two positions in each section:

The skills listed for these roles are important, however we do not expect someone to have all of them or developed them to the level stated as this point in their career.

We are very keen not to exclude anyone who may be interested in applying for an opportunity with us, so please do not de-select yourself if you do not have 100% of what we are looking for as we will support and train  successful candidates as much as possible.  A desire to learn and develop will be key components during our selection process when considering an applicant’s potential to expand into the role.

03 FEBRUARY: PARTICIPANT RECRUITMENT  

07 FEBRUARY: ALL APPLICANTS KNOW OUTCOME    

09 & 10 FEBRUARY: CIP INDUCTION WEEK  

13 FEB – 28 JUL: FIRST PLACEMENT  

31 JUL – 20 JAN 24: SECOND PLACEMENT
