As part of SIREN collective’s Associate Artist residency at Somerset House Studios, The Shape of Sound is a video series of 10-15 minute live performances, profiling the talent of six UK-based womxn and non-binary artists. Filmed within Somerset House, each performance uniquely presents the work of each artist in a new context and shows the ways in which their electronic musical practice interacts with their surroundings.

“We wanted to select a group of UK based artists who covered a variety of genres and styles within electronic music and performance art - and one of the artists, Moonbow, is part of SIREN collective themselves. Often in the DJ world, mixes and radio shows act as a platform for getting DJs bookings, and we feel like there is a gap in the scene where live artists - particularly upcoming artists who are unsigned or on DIY labels - can similarly give audiences (especially online) a taste of how their live experience feels.”

BIOGRAPHIES

Moonbow Moonbow is the brainchild of London based multidisciplinary artist Eleanor Hardwick. Dance floor ready beats form the backbone of Moonbow’s avant-pop compositions, which sit beneath a wash of atmospheric synths, spliced and glitched vocal samples and post-internet lyricism. Three self released EPs saw praise from publications including i-D, Crack, The Line Of Best Fit & The Wire - and now Moonbow is currently working on their debut album.

MX World is the project of London based composer and DJ Poppy Tibbetts. Combining traditional methods and styles of songwriting with sampling, sound collage and audio-processing techniques, MX World is a highly personal and contemplative project that considers themes such as loneliness, embodiment, fantasy and anxiety. In November 2017, MX World released her debut, self-titled EP. Her next show is at The Waiting Room, Stoke Newington on 6th December.

object blue Chinese-born and currently London-based producer and DJ, object blue released her debut EP Do you plan to end a siege? this year on Tobago Tracks. Her latest work, REX, out on Let’s Go Swimming, continues her exploration of experimental sounds figured into dancefloor rhythms. Named as one of the 10 techno/house producers to watch in 2018 by FACT magazine, she continues to perform a diverse range of music, including live techno, experimental installations and DJ sets.

rkss is an alias of Robin Buckley, a London based sound artist. Their releases on UIQ, Alien Jams, Where To Now? and more have explored the materiality of film sound, YouTube and EDM sample packs through the lens of house, ambient and computer music.

M T Hall Emerging as one of the most exciting new producers in the North West of the UK, M T Hall’s background as a visual artist has translated into building dense sonic structures derived from her multidisciplinary approach and political praxis. While founded on a palette of acidic basslines, trance stabs and tension-building melodies, M T Hall's productions bleed into strange worlds beyond the dancefloor. Her debut EP Pale Master is out soon.

Iceboy Violet is a producer / vocalist re-appropriating the energy, emotionality and resistance of Grime music to challenge heteronormativity and toxic masculinity. Giving voice to anger, anxieties and defiance as personal and collective catharsis.
