The neighbourhood
Somerset House occupies a rare position in London’s cultural and professional landscape; a working creative network set within an iconic heritage site in the heart of the capital. This powerful juxtaposition of inspirational architecture and a centre for contemporary culture fosters a dynamic dialogue between history and the future, attracting a young, diverse audience.
Bordered by the historic Strand to the north and the River Thames to the south, our 18th-century buildings offer a striking backdrop and characterful spaces to inspire. These atmospheric surroundings link London’s storied past with its creative present, making Somerset House a sought-after destination for both cultural visitors and the professional creative community who call it home.
Our enviable location places us in the heart of one of London’s most creatively charged neighbourhoods, surrounded by leading cultural institutions and contemporary arts spaces. Just minutes from the Royal Opera House, Southbank Centre, National Theatre, BFI and ICA, we’re also closely connected to innovative spaces like 180 Strand and independent galleries that shape the city’s artistic landscape. With the vibrant streets of Covent Garden and Soho nearby, a wealth of artisan cafés, eateries, and design-led boutiques are all within walking distance, Somerset House offers an environment where creativity, connection, and culture thrive.
Transport links
Exceptionally well connected, Somerset House is within easy access to both intercity and regional transport links. Moments from Waterloo, Charing Cross, and Blackfriars stations, and within walking distance of Holborn, Covent Garden, and Temple underground stations, the site is easily reachable from across the capital and beyond. Step-free access options are also available, ensuring an inclusive welcome for all visitors.
“The combination of creative facilities, opportunities, people, and positivity makes this my absolute favourite place to work.”
