Edible Utopia: Launch Event

Wed 21 Mar 2018
12.30 - 13.30

To celebrate the public launch of the Edible Utopia project we held a ceremonial planting of Rhubarb sproutlings on the roof of the old HMRC conference centre.

Edible Utopia at Somerset House is a project looking at nurturing sustainable produce in some of the buildings hidden and overlooked locations using the historic idiosyncrasies of the architecture to create new possibilities.

For this special launch event we welcomed rhubarb to the building which now populates the roof of the old conference centre. Attendees were invited to get hands on with the planting  and to join in with a unique choral serenade from onsite residents lead by composer Alex Etchart, devised to celebrate the arrival of the rhubarb and the Spring season. Accompanying the public planting we offered seasonal refreshments and an opportunity to sign up for future involvement in the project.
