Let us help you fathom the inner workings of the city and the heart in this special Valentine's gallery evening that invites you to connect with culture and each other.

Inspired by our exhibition By the deep, by the mark, join us for what promises to be a Valentine’s event with a difference. Our gallery hosts will welcome you with a glass of bubbly, whilst an exhibition tour with a twist, hands-on workshop, special artist performance and goody-bag will provide plenty of ice-breaking opportunities.

This late-night event has been creatively curated by designer Kirsi Enkovaara, whose work explores human interaction, nature and urban environments. Inspired by Eloise Hawser’s study of the emotional resonances within the infrastructures that underpin modern life, Kirsi invites you to interact with the invisible meeting points between each other and the built environment that surrounds us.

What do these encounters mean to us? How do textures and surfaces surrounding us shape our lives, and how do we shape them? Kirsi will encourage you to experience presence in these fleeting moments, asking us, ‘what does a date with our surroundings look like?’

With artist led examples and guidance we come together to create an informal installation of our own impressions. Sculpting a ‘library of encounters’ using clay like malleable material to be displayed or take away.

A special thanks to Aesop and Divine Chocolate, for their support with goody bag supplies.

This event is for those aged 16 and over only.

BIOGRAPHY

Kirsi Enkovaara is a Finnish designer, who has always been drawn to exploring how nature organically creates shapes and systems. Recently Kirsi has been interested in how people shape their environment with the presence of their body, and finds beauty in accidents, abstraction and organic things. This evening event is an extension of her work, exploring such themes through various forms: natural patterns, human behaviour and shapes created with our body.

Enkovaara based her studio in south London after graduating from the Royal College of Art, Design Products in 2014. Best known for her Water Landscapes, she showed as part of London Design Festival in 2017, she has exhibited extensively through Europe, recently participating in exhibitions in the Helsinki Design Museum and in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Her work has been featured in the front runner publications such as Dezeen, Wallpaper*, Interni and Frame Magazine.
