Pay What You Can

The work of our artists is valuable and our events cost money to produce, but we also want them to be as accessible as possible. Therefore, we offer you the opportunity to pay what you can for these events.

Forest Fringe’s Amateurs Club is a free DIY Film School, hosted by Somerset House Studios and featuring each month a different professional from the world of film, from writers and directors to art designers, editors, location managers and cinematographers. Each session combines practical information and personal reflections to offer a glimpse into the filmmaking process. Month by month these individual sessions will build into an avowedly partial and idiosyncratic guide to making your own film. Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, whether they want to drop into one session or follow the whole project as it develops.

Through this Amateurs Club, the artists of Forest Fringe are learning how to make a feature film, and in August 2019 they will put this knowledge to the test by shooting a full-length feature film in the space of three weeks, with anyone welcome to participate in the process.

Their aim, from the outset, is to be amateurs in the world of cinema. Amateur comes from the Italian amatore (lover) and this project is born out of a love of film and a desire to better understand it. But it is also an experiment what can be achieved in uncertain space between the professional and the amateur, between established live artists and hobbyist filmmakers, between artistic labour and a labour of love.

Forest Fringe is a project run collectively by the artists Andy Field, Deborah Pearson and Ira Brand. As a collective they are Studios Associate Artists and members of Live Art UK, the UK’s live art network.

The work of our artists is valuable and our events cost money to produce, but we also want them to be as accessible as possible. Therefore, we offer you the opportunity to pay what you can for these events.
