A pop-up skatepark sets up shop on the Strand, with two weeks of free skateboarding events.

Vans presents Skate the Strand, in association with our summer exhibition No Comply: Skate Culture and Community. This exciting programme of free skate lessons, pro demos, open public skate sessions and community talks all celebrate skateboarding’s inclusive creative culture.

Working with industry leading skatepark designers and builders Betongpark, the street inspired setup can be enjoyed by skaters of any level. Skate the Strand aims to demonstrate how skateable architectural forms can be integrated into shared spaces and used by all, acting as a landmark for skate culture. The skatepark and its accompanying events will showcase the positive impact skateboarding can have on local communities, from mental health and well-being to enriching youth culture.

Part of Westminster City Council's Inside Out Festival, bringing art, entertainment and culture to the streets of Westminster this summer, Skate the Strand also marks the start of an ongoing plan to pedestrianise and redevelop Strand Aldwych. The redevelopment, led by the council and its partners, sees the iconic and ancient route adapted for the 21st century to become a pedestrian focused destination.

Further dates to be announced soon.
