Artist Talk: Joel Meyerowitz

Meyerowitz is the 19th recipient of the Sony World Photography Awards Outstanding Contribution to Photography, an award that honours a person or group that has made a significant impact on the photographic medium.

Joel Meyerowitz (b. New York, 1938) is an award-winning photographer whose work has appeared in over 350 exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world. Celebrated as a pioneer of colour photography, he is a two-time Guggenheim Fellow, a recipient of both National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities awards, and a recipient of The Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal. He has published 57 books. Joel Meyerowitz is represented by Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York, Polka Galerie in Paris and Huxley-Parlour Gallery in London. He lives and works in New York and in London.

The talk will be moderated by John Wilson, a journalist and broadcaster who has specialised in arts and cultural affairs for over 25 years. He presents This Cultural Life, the Radio 4 podcast series on which guests have included some of the world’s most important creative figures including Paul McCartney, Margaret Atwood, Salman Rushdie, Jennifer Lawrence, Nile Rodgers, Sebastião Salgado and many more. Many episodes are filmed for BBC News global channel. John presented BBC Radio 4’s flagship arts magazine show Front Row from its launch in 1998 until 2021, and hosted the acclaimed music series Mastertapes.
