Collective Memory
Explore the world of magical realism with Aziza Kadyri
Blurring reality and fiction, the film takes a look through the artist's collection of textiles and costume, as she reflects on her ancestral history and it’s influence on her work. Kadyri shares the themes that she has explored during the CCI x Somerset House Studios residency whilst developing her G31 exhibition, Play Nice.
Through storytelling and performance, Kadyri unpicks personal and cultural histories, by merging the hand made with the machine generated, as we are given intimate insight into her practice - where the portrayal of her own lived experiences and memories might spark your own. She uses artefacts and costume as portals within which she creates characters, where garments are not just worn, but inhabited, and stories are born from objects.
