Last Will & Testament
Artists Sophia Al-Maria and Lydia Ourahmane interrogate ideas about home and land ownership in the UK.
We visit Sophia Al-Maria and Lydia Ourahmane's shared studio at Somerset House to learn about their interest in the grey areas of Britain’s narratives and how they’ve shaped our understanding of identity, belonging and who has the ‘right to remain’. After discovering that everything they own could end up in the hands of the Royal Family, the artists decide to write their own Last Wills & Testaments. We follow their journey through the city to create them and the hurdles they face.
Their two new commissions, ‘The Pits’ and ‘2125’, are now open to visit at Somerset House Studios.
