ScreenSkills x Somerset House
ScreenSkills celebrate five years of ‘Future Film Skills’ in the Portico Rooms, 2023.
March 2023
In March 2023, Somerset House hosted ScreenSkills to support and celebrate five years of their Future Film Skills Programme, an initiative that has supported 123,000 individuals, including over 90,000 new entrants, and investing in the people driving the success of UK film, TV, VFX, animation and games. The Future Film Skills Showcase was a morning of talks and discussions hosted in our Portico and Navy Board Rooms.
Conferences in the Portico & Navy Board Rooms
The main Portico Room housed keynote presentations and panel sessions for 100 attendees. The Navy Board Rooms hosted the catering with Restaurant Associates offering a sustainable and locally sourced plant-based menu. Production and staging were managed by Light Motif, who provided full audio-visual and streaming services, a stage and bespoke stage backdrop, as well as dedicated technicians throughout the day. The content was also streamed so that guests could attend online, and additional capacity was created on site by use of an overflow space with a live relay of the main stage.
Inclusive and Accessible Event Design
Accessibility was the cornerstone of this event, and Somerset House collaborated with ScreenSkills to embed inclusivity at every stage. Clear venue accessibility information including lift and ramp access was shared in all participant communication prior to the event to ensure all guests could make the right choices for them.
Event design included a British Sign Language interpreter – who was in the space and visible on the screen – closed captions on the video stream, a dedicated quiet space, multi-level poseur tables, a lower stage height with an additional ramp for any wheelchair using presenters and the installation of a temporary hearing loop system in the venue for the event day.
