This panel marks the publication of Ô Cameroon! Modern and Contemporary Art and Artists From 1925 to Now, a landmark volume documenting 100 years of Cameroon’s artistic production through 178 artists, more than 300 images, and over 20 essays and conversations. Bringing together artists, curators, and the book’s editor, the discussion will explore the making of this comprehensive compendium and visual anthology, the importance of archives and publishing in preserving cultural memory, and the role of artists in shaping national and global narratives.
The conversation will also examine Cameroon’s contribution to African modernism and contemporary art, highlighting the value of long-term documentation, collaboration, and initiatives ensuring that African art histories are researched, preserved, and shared with future generations.
