Cory Henry

Growing up in Brooklyn, Henry’s childhood was immersed in pages of sheet music. By the time he reached secondary school, his prodigious talent had established him as a permanent fixture at the Village Underground. From there, his career in music catapulted him onto touring stages with legendary figures such as Bruce Springsteen, Michael McDonald, P. Diddy, Boyz II Men, Kenny Garrett, The Roots and many more.

It was his canny arrangements and freewheeling stage presence that gave Snarky Puppy a cutting edge, and in 2014 Cory released his first solo project First Steps, which reached the top of Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart, while his 2016 gospel/jazz fusion live album The Revival was critically acclaimed and featured on NPR’s All Things Considered. Two years later, Henry and The Funk Apostles released their first album Art of Love, picking up plaudits from the New York Times, Billboard and NPR.

Fronting a super-tight unit of drums, bass, guitar, a second keyboard and with exceptional backing vocalists, Henry works a crowd from bar one, showing his skills as a vocalist and relentlessly upbeat MC. Buckle up for a Friday night funk, gospel and soul masterclass.

Emerging Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist corto.alto, the moniker of Glasgow based Liam Shortall, brings a fresh perspective to a heady mix of intuitive improvisation, electronic production, broken beat bounce and bass-heavy dub. Proud of his Glaswegian upbringing and Irish-Spanish heritage (corto.alto translates as 'short, tall' in Spanish), his renegade sound is a constant push-and-pull of bravado and vulnerability. Debut album Bad With Names, out in October, brings together some of the UK’s finest young players, including Mercury Prize-nominated pianist Fergus McCreadie, trumpet player James Copus, trombonist Anoushka Nanguy and drummer Graham Costello.
