DIY Hardware Workshop for Recording Unhearable Sounds in the Home

with Victor Mazon

Sat 8 Aug
10.00 – 14.00
Online Event

From home, learn to solder and build your own DIY sound device for recording and amplifying unhearable sounds. Led by Berlin-based music maker and artist Victor Mazon.

These two standalone workshop sessions are open to all levels, with no prior skills required. The modules have been designed in such a way that they can be adapted to the different needs of the participants. We will start from scratch with an induction to soldering for beginners to intermediate on soldering, but interest, patience and motivation are mandatory. You can attend any workshop as a one off, or both to build on what you’ve learnt the week before.
Participants will build a bespoke analogue device that will modulate the unhearable, invisible, unknown sounds inside your home, and materialise the results.
During the course of the workshop theoretical and practical topics related to listening, amplification, modulation and audiovisual synthesis will be addressed, through the construction of an electronic device.
We will establish guidelines for electronic materials for listening and we will build different sensors, showing an introduction to other analog modules with more complex and DIY electronics resources.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be provided with the necessary documentation on their use, modification and adaptation to other needs.
When you book your place you will be charged a £20 booking fee. With this item you will be booking a spot in our workshop.
Please note there will be no refunds of the booking fee in case of cancelling / not showing.
This £20 booking fee will be deducted during the workshop from the price of the kit/s, shipping costs and any necessary tools you may need. We estimate the total cost will be £90 including all materials and tuition. Participants will be emailed to arrange delivery.
