Pay What You Can

The work of our artists is valuable and our events cost money to produce, but we also want them to be as accessible as possible. Therefore, we offer you the opportunity to pay what you can for this event.

The Amateurs Club is a monthly art club initiated by Forest Fringe following their final season at the Edinburgh Festival. This is a club where everyone is welcome, committed to a collective unknowing, and a desire plunge in regardless.

The Amateurs Club is currently part of Forest Fringe's Cinematophilia - a 18 month long project in which the artists of Forest Fringe will teach themselves how to make a feature film, and then make one. Each month they invite a professional to host the session, helping attendees to start learning all the things they might need to know, offering a fascinating glimpse into the lives and work of a collection of people working in cinema.

Felicity Hickson is an Art Director and Graphic Artist working in the UK film industry. Since starting in 2007, Felicity has enjoyed a varied career working with a long list of inspiring Production Designers and Directors.

She is excited to kick start The Amateurs Club on their first journey in Production Design. During the session Felicity will talk about the importance of creating and designing spaces that add character depth and help to tell the story. She will also look at how constructing suitable and believable environments assist actors and directors to inhabit the space in order to bring the film to life.

Felicity has a background in image-making, design and illustration completing an MA at RCA in 2006. She has worked on recent films such as ‘Phantom Thread’ (Dir. Paul Thomas Anderson), ‘In Fabric’ (Dir. Peter Strickland), ‘Colin’ and ‘High Rise’ (Dir. Ben Wheatley), ‘The Martian’, ‘Exodus: God and Kings’ and ‘The Counselor’ (Dir. Ridley Scott), ‘Skyfall’ (Dir. Sam Mendes), ‘Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy’ (Dir, Thomas Alfredson).

The work of our artists is valuable and our events cost money to produce, but we also want them to be as accessible as possible. Therefore, we offer you the opportunity to pay what you can for this event.
