Studio 01 is a Somerset House Studios exhibition series presenting the work of early career visual artists. Developed during an 18-month residency supported by Jerwood Foundation, the second edition presents new artworks by two of the residency participants, Noah Bador and Parwana Haydar.
Bador and Haydar each share films that reflect on their connections to Malaysia and Afghanistan respectively. Through intimate conversations with family members, the artists explore themes of distance, unrecorded stories and systemic oppression. Both works use collage techniques, weaving together archival footage, imagery and text to consider the absences in personal and national memory. In dialogue, the act of remembering becomes dreamlike, histories are reimagined, and certainty gives way to ambiguity. The exhibition represents a journey towards personal understanding, ultimately resting in the acceptance of not knowing.
