The Summer Series screening of rituals: union black will be a unique, immersive, and disruptive audio-visual event, platforming unexplored Black British experiences through the mediums of film and music.
Created by Somerset House Studios artist Akinola Davies Jr., the work uses music, light, camera, and space to challenge and reimagine traditional notions of cinema — all set within the iconic Somerset House courtyard.

Made with the support from BBC Film, Davies Jr’s new work documents the everyday rituals that underscore rhythms of Black life in the UK, paying tribute to the collective resonances of Black British communities.
This exclusive musical screening from Akinola Davies Jr, who joined Somerset House’s creative community in 2020, has been commissioned specially for Somerset House’s 25th birthday celebrations.
