The Missing Thread

A documentary exploring the untold stories of Black British fashion

Black creatives have long used fashion to negotiate what it means to be both Black and British. However, many existing histories of fashion are limited in scope, shaped by the realities of discriminatory access and structural racism found throughout society generally. Through interviews with artists, designers and creatives the film explores the struggles, triumphs, and enduring creativity of Black fashion designers, artists and models who have left an indelible mark on the British cultural landscape. Set around the themes of Performance, Home, Nightlife, Tailoring, and the late pioneer Joe Casely-Hayford OBE, whose exemplary design achievements and visionary approach to fashion pushed boundaries and left a hugely significant legacy.
