Join us for an after-hours party like no other as the Somerset House Studios artist community opens its doors for a one-night takeover of the former Inland Revenue building.

This October for the first time, Somerset House Studios opens its doors for the inaugural Annual General Meeting.

Since October 2016, the Studios have nurtured a unique community of over 300 artists and makers who’ve inspired a boundary breaking programme of events, workshops and exhibitions rooted in art, music, subversion, critical thinking and the celebration of counter cultural movements.

For one night of the year, AGM sees Somerset House Studios artists take over the Grade I listed former Admiralty HQ; giving the public a rare opportunity to access three floors of private underground spaces for film, music, pop-up bars and an after-hours party like no other.

G22, a former inland revenue office is transformed as Resis’dance, a women and non-binary events collective that challenge gender norms in the music scene, present a very special takeover with Mica Coca, PheobeD and GIN.

The Lower Lancaster Rooms, a dilapidated yet to be refurbished space, will be converted into a venue for the night featuring DJ sets from special guest and Hyperdub founder Kode9, producer, musician and NTS DJ Beatrice Dillon, Marija Bozinovska Jones featuring MBJ Wetware, an AV performance from recsund (Quantum Natives) and a very special performance to mark the opening of Hannah Perry's new solo exhibition GUSH featuring Mica Levi, Coby Sey and London Contemporary Orchestra.

Downstairs in the Inland Revenue’s old recreation rooms, Cotch International, a new label promoting globally-minded music with a raw edge, shines the light on sensational new talents from across the musical spectrum bringing exciting new hybrids to the fore with a line-up of eclectic DJs including HITECA, Jesse Ajose and Joe Cotch.

Further along the mid-basement corridor in the former Navy Rifle Range, artists and filmmakers Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard present DOUBLETHINK, a new video installation created specifically for Sheffield Doc/Fest 2018 which was filmed in this same space earlier this year.

Meanwhile down in the basement, the Paint Room becomes an underground club with sets from Studios residents Jacob Samuel, hmurd and Brood Ma (Quantum Natives) providing the soundtrack for Maker Street’s atmospheric lightwell and the vaulted studios under Waterloo Bridge.

AGM tickets will include late night access to Hannah Perry’s new solo exhibition GUSH featuring a large-scale, dynamic audio-visual installation as part of a major body of new work. Tickets will also allow access to TBCTV, a new installation taking the form of a TV studio from Studios residents Mel BrimfieldEwan Jones Morris and Chloe Lamford (with ticketed theatre performances from 19.00 to 21.00).

AGM also marks 5 years of Makerversity being resident at Somerset House, inspiring and incubating a community of over 300 makers based within the building. As part of AGM, Makerversity will display specially commissioned films of five unique member stories showcasing leading voices on future making.

Join us as we toast the development of an urgent and exciting new site of artistic production, celebrate the achievements of the community, and look to the future of cultural practice.

AGM is a multi room event with artists performing across different spaces throughout the night. Access to any given space will be on a first come first served basis.
