Grounding Practice: Marta Salogni

An online workshop on sound production and mixing techniques.

Programmed by Studios curators in residence Mutant Promise, in this Grounding Practice session Marta Salogni gives us an insight into her world of mixing and producing, as well as her own creative practice working with tape.

This Grounding Practice workshop has been programmed in conjunction Amplify Digital Arts Initiative (DAI) 2022, an online residency programme bringing together an international network of female-identifying and non-binary artists and professionals working within the fields of digital arts and electronic music, produced in partnership with British Council, MUTEK, Oi Futuro and Artlab. 
 
The session is made available free of charge for Amplify DAI artists as part of their residency programme activity, with a limited number of additional tickets available for purchase by female-identifying and non-binary artists and professionals outside of the residency cohort.  

About Marta Salogni

Marta Salogni is an award winning producer, mixer and engineer. She’s worked with the likes of Björk, Holly Herndon, Bon Iver, Animal Collective, Black Midi, Porridge Radio, Anna Meredith, Dreamwife, Daniel Avery, Ela Minus, Planningtorock, Rosie Lowe & Duval Timothy, Shura, The Orielles and many more. 

In 2018, Marta was awarded Breakthrough Engineer of the Year at the Music Producers Guild Awards, 2020 MPG Breakthrough Producer of the Year and was nominated for 2021 MPG UK Producer of the Year. 

As well as her studio work, Marta also performs live using tape looping and feedback and runs a charity called 'Free Youth Orchestra', which focuses on removing financial barriers between children and access to musical equipment, by providing instruments and free workshops run by local musicians. 

About Mutant Promise

Mutant Promise is a producing and artist development agency working with experimental artists and musicians to devise artist-led learning and skill-sharing programmes. 
 
Created by Tadeo Lopez-Sendon and Harry Murdoch at the start of 2020, Mutant Promise have worked with organisations internationally including Somerset House Studios (London), Pioneer Works (New York), InterAccess Centre (Toronto), Nyege Nyege (Kampala) and EMBT (Tokyo), to produce workshops, discussions and digital commissions with artists including NSDOS, Joanne Armitage, Johan Diedrick, Jessika Ekomane and Toiret Status.
